You will lead experimental and theoretical investigations into the effects of plasma treatments on semiconductor materials used in wafer bonding. This role combines hands-on wafer processing, metrology, and data analysis to uncover surface-level phenomena critical to bonding performance.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Operate advanced surface metrology tools as high-level user:
    • Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
    • Variable Angle Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (VASE)
    • Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)
    • Additional surface characterization techniques as needed
  • Design and execute experiments to study process-induced surface modifications
  • Analyze and interpret data, integrating results with theoretical models
  • Document and present results internally and externally
  • Collaborate with process engineers and R&D teams for process technology optimization
  • Support customer projects and provide technical insights during evaluations

Requirements:

  • A master degree or doctorate in Surface Science, Materials Science, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with surface metrology tools (AFM, VASE, FTIR, etc.)
  • Experience with working in cleanroom environment
  • Basic knowledge in data analysis and scientific programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
  • Ability to connect experimental results with theoretical frameworks
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German is a plus
  • Structured, detail-oriented, and proactive working style
  • Flexibility in addressing a variety of topics
  • Knowledge on molecular dynamics (MD) or density functional theory (DFT) simulations to support experimental findings are an advantage
  • Knowledge on plasma-surface interactions is an advantage

Salary:

We prefer to discuss salary in person, but we can reveal this much: We naturally align with market-standard salaries - meaning that, depending on the position and education, an above-collective agreement salary is possible right from the start. For this position, we offer an annual gross salary of at least 53.200 EUR. Depending on qualifications and experience, we can also offer more!
